Here is the situation report for Danville at 5:30 pm Wednesday:

  • Public Works crews spent the day spreading sand and, when temperatures rose above freezing, plowing in residential areas. Crews will remain on duty overnight to monitor conditions and respond to icy spots. Plows are ineffective when temperatures are below freezing.
  • On Thursday, crews will begin spreading brine in preparation for possible snowfall this weekend. The National Weather Service reports increasing confidence that a coastal low-pressure system will bring snow to the area. There is currently a greater than 60% chance of more than 4 inches of snow along and south of U.S. 460, though uncertainty remains about the storm’s track and exact totals.
  • Dangerously cold overnight temperatures remain a main concern. The current temperature is 37 degrees, with a low tonight of 16 degrees. Wind chills will be single digits. The Temporary Relief & Counseling Center (TRCC) at 625 Shelton St. is operating a 24-hour warming center for any resident or visitor in need of shelter.
