Here is the situation report for Danville at 5:30 pm Saturday:

  • Snowfall today has been mostly moderate, with occasional lighter and heavier periods. Unofficially, Danville has received about 6 inches of snow since late Friday afternoon, and snow is expected to end before midnight.
  • The current temperature is 18 degrees, with a wind chill of 7 degrees. Overnight temperatures will be in the low teens, with wind chills near 0.
  • The Temporary Relief & Counseling Center (TRCC) at 625 Shelton St. is operating a 24-hour warming center for any resident or visitor in need of shelter. The House of Hope at 206 South Ridge St. will provide shelter from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Public Works crews are plowing major thoroughfares while working 12-hour shifts. Crews will continue focusing on main streets, bridges, and overpasses until the storm ends, then make a final pass before moving into collector streets.
  • The Police Department reports five weather-related accidents today. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel.
  • Danville Utilities reports no power outages today. The largest outage during the snow event occurred Friday evening at Howeland Circle, affecting about 65 customers from approximately 9:30 p.m.  to 11 p.m.

Closures and cancellations

    • The Danville Visitor Center was closed today, and it will be closed on Sunday as well.
    • Danville Regional Airport is closed.
    • Danville Transit did not operate today. A decision on Monday service will be made on Sunday.
    • The Ruby B. Archie Public Library was closed today.
  • The Danville Winter Market scheduled for today was
  • canceled.
