The newest member of Danville City Council was sworn in last night. Last week city council appointed Danny Marshall to fill the vacant council seat left by the Jan. 13 resignation of Councilman Madison Whittle, who is now serving in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Marshall said its an honor to be back on City Council.

Marshall will serve until a special election is held in November.

Marshall served in the Virginia House of Delegates for 24 years, first elected in 2001, where he served as chairman and vice chairman of multiple House committees. He also has played a significant role in the Virginia Tobacco Commission, which allocates the state’s proceeds from the National Tobacco Settlement to support economic development in rural communities. He served on the Danville City Council from 2000 to 2001 before being elected to the House of Delegates.

Marshall was selected from a pool of three finalists. The other finalists were Shakeva Frazier and Shelby Irving.
