PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A 70-year-old woman died in a single vehicle accident in Pittsylvania County Wednesday.

Virginia State Police say Joan Stewart was traveling west on Route 58 when the SUV she was driving ran off the side of the road, hit a ditch, flipped her car and then struck a building.

The crash happened just after 10:30 Wednesday night on Route 58, near Route 51.

State Police say Stewart, of Climax, was wearing her seat belt. She was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she later died.
