DANVILLE, Va. – A candle was to blame for a house fire in Danville this Christmas Eve,
The Danville Fire Department was called to 729 Temple Avenue at 4 am Tuesday. On arrival, crews found a two-story home with fire showing from both floors and all four sides.
Firefighters fought the flames from outside the house before mounting an interior attack. In all, they were on scene for about three hours.
The only occupant was out of the home when firefighters arrived. He was later transported to the hospital for treatment of a medical issue unrelated to the fire. The Red Cross is assisting him with temporary housing.
The fire was caused by an unattended candle.
Four engines, one ladder truck, one safety officer and a chief officer responded.
