(Stuart, Va.) – A Patrick County hospital that earlier filed for bankruptcy protection is closing its doors.

Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart is going out of business, although the exact date of the closure has not been announced.

In a statement, Hospital Administrator Jeanette Filpi says the administration has worked to structure a sale for the hospital but has been unable to find a buyer since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at the end of March. She says that leaves owner Pioneer Health Services with “no choice but to close the hospital at this time.”

The doctor hired last year to lead the hospital’s clinic submitted his resignation on July 31, effective at the end of September. The hospital’s ER is no longer accepting patients.

Her statement added that all acute care patients in the hospital will be cared for on site until they are stable enough to be discharged or transferred. The clinic will also continue to see patients already scheduled, up until the last day. All scheduled outpatient visits end Friday.
