Arrest made in pre-Christmas homicide

(Danville, Va.) — A man has been arrested in Texas in a murder that happened two days before Christmas in Windsor Heights in Danville.

34-year-old Antwain Maurice Jones of Culpepper  was arrested without incident Thursday in Gregg County, Texas by the U.S. Marshals Service. He was jailed on an outstanding warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The gun charge is directly related to the homicide of David Bernard Stewart that took place in the 400 block of Downing Dr. on December 23, 2018. Stewart was shot and killed and another woman seriously injured at a party in the Windsor Heights neighborhood of Danville.

Jones is a suspect in the homicide and additional charges are expected. Jones is currently being held without bond in Gregg County, Texas awaiting extradition back to Danville.

Danville Police say the U.S. Marshals Service was extensively involved in the search for Antwain Jones from very early on in the investigation.
