(South Boston, Va.) – A pursuit that started in North Carolina ended in South Boston Sunday after a fugitive crashed his car and fled on foot.

The chase involved a black Ford Expedition and started in Person County with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. When he crossed the state line, Virginia State Police joined in the pursuit.

According to the Gazette-Virginian, the Expedition was pursued along Highway 501 at speeds over 100 miles per hour. Halifax County Sheriff’s deputies set up spikes at the intersection of East Hyco Road. When the vehicle hit the spikes, the driver crashed into a state police cruiser and continued through Riverdale to the 501-58 intersection with two flat tires. State Police say the suspect then turned the wrong way onto a one-way street and slammed into a fire hydrant and two parked cars.

The driver got out of the vehicle and ran on foot but was soon apprehended by Virginia State Police.

Authorities say he was being sought on outstanding warrants and had been involved in a recent police chase in Campbell County.

The man was taken to a Halifax hospital for treatment of injuries.
