(Pittsylvania County, Va.) — Pittsylvania County investigators say a man shot Sunday night while attempting to force his way into a house in the Penhook area has died. He has been identified as 22-year-old Nicholas Aaron Marlowe. He died late Sunday night.

Deputies were notified about 8:25 p.m. that a white male had been wounded.

An investigation shows that a homeowner shot the man as he was forcing his way into an occupied home in the 3800 block of Smith Mountain Road.

Marlowe was flown to Roanoke Carillon Hospital with life-threatening injuries and died just before midnight. Marlowe’s last known address was in the 4800 block of Old Franklin Turnpike in Franklin County, Virginia.

An autopsy was performed Monday morning  and investigators were back at the scene interviewing witnesses.

No criminal charges have been brought in this matter. The Commonwealth’s
Attorney will be reviewing all evidence and witness statements before a final decision is announced.
