PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Two men found dead inside a burning home in Pittsylvania County Sunday morning died of gunshot wounds.

Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor says both died as the result gunshot wounds. Their deaths are being carried as homicides.

The bodies were found inside a home in the 800 block of Old Mayfield Road after the Pittsylvania 911 Center received a call of smoke coming from the residence.

The cause of death was confirmed by the state medical examiner following autopsies in Roanoke.

The identity of the two victims remains a mystery. Sheriff Taylor said efforts to identify the two have been unsuccessful to this point because the pair was not known by neighbors. He said investigators continue to work to ID the men by other means.

No arrests have been made in the arson-homicide investigation.

Other organizations including the Danville Police Department, the Pittsylvania County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the Virginia State Police and the Joint Terrorism Task Force are assisting with the investigation.
