(Danville, VA) – UPDATE as of 5am – The city of Danville and the surrounding areas are expecting more winter weather to start the week. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 1am Tuesday. Meteorologist Ben Gruver with the National Weather Service office in Blacksburg says southside can expect rain as the system starts to move through the area turning to snow by or before 9am. Snow is expected to continue until nearly 7pm.
Danville could see as much as 2 inches of accumulation from this system. Northern parts of Pittsylvania County could see as much as 4 inches.
Danville Public Works is monitoring the situation. Plows and salt-sand trucks are ready, but crews have not pretreated roads with brine because expected rain would wash it away. Danville Utilities’ crews are also prepared to respond as needed.
