BATH COUNTY, Va. – A 12-year-old who was visiting relatives in Hot Springs was struck by lightning and died Sunday.

The Bath County Sheriff’s Office received a call Saturday afternoon that the child had been struck by lightning. When rescue workers arrived, the 12-year-old had no pulse and wasn’t breathing.

The boy was revived by ER staff. Because of the weather, the child was transported to Roanoke Carillion Hospital by ambulance. He died at 11:23 a.m. on Sunday.

No other details of his identity will be released due to the victim’s age and to ensure the privacy of the family.
