MADISON, N.C. – Remington Arms Company may soon be closing its plant in Rockingham County, North Carolina, leaving 108 workers without jobs.

A letter to the North Carolina Department of Commerce says the company could eliminate the positions beginning on September 29, 2020.

Remington Outdoor Company, including Remington Arms Company, LLC, recently filed for bankruptcy protection and said it plans to close the Madison division, unless a buyer can be found. On July 27, Remington entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in nearly 2½ years, declaring between $100 million and $500 million in both assets and liabilities.

The bankruptcy court judge plans to conduct an auction of Remington’s assets in September.

Remington is the country’s oldest firearms manufacturer and has operated a plant in  Madison since 1996.
