DANVILLE, Va. – The cause of a fire that damaged a home in the heart of Danville’s Old West End Historic District remains under investigation.

The Danville Fire Department responded early Wednesday morning to a fire at 216 Jefferson Ave. Upon arrival, crews found a two-story residence with smoke showing from the basement windows on the left side of the structure. The building is under renovation and unoccupied.

Crews entered the basement and found a significant amount of fire that they were able to extinguish. Firefighters also doused a small fire that had extended to the first floor. Damage to the structure was moderate. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Danville Fire Marshal.
