DANVILLE, Va. – Franklin County middle and high school students returned to in-person classes Tuesday following a virtual day on Friday to allow for additional COVID cleaning. Updated numbers on the school district’s COVID-19 dashboard show that 55 current student cases of COVID have been reported in three Franklin County schools during the first week of September. The dashboard also shows 120 cases from those three facilities in August.

Giles County public schools remain closed because of high transmission rates, while schools in Craig and Bath Counties had to shutter their doors because of staffing shortages. Craig County schools were closed Tuesday, September 7, to allow administrative staff to conduct contact tracing based on COVID exposures over the Labor Day weekend involving staff and students.

Danville Public Schools continue to operate as normal but the system will hold an “In-Person Career Fair” Monday, September 13,  at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research at 150 Slayton Ave. A news release says the school system is hiring in all areas. The job fair runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
