DANVILLE, Va. – Gov. Ralph Northam announced Thursday $150 million to prepare site-ready locations for industry. $100 million will be reserved for mega-sites; $50 for medium-sized industrial projects.

Northam called the this an investment in the Commonwealth’s future and predicts the initiative will eventually mean 20,000 new jobs for the state.

These will be shovel-ready sites that will be prepared for corporations to locate in the Old Dominion.

He called the city “a model” for the state and nation, adding that “Danville has brought more jobs to this area than, I think, any other part of the state.”

Danville Del. Danny Marshall said jobs “are not Democratic jobs, they are not Republican jobs; they are jobs.” And he reminded Northam that Pittsylvania County’s Berry Hill Mega Park is a prime candidate for this “Christmas present.”

Virginia’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade Brian Ball called this “a historic day” for Danville and Pittsylvania County and said it is a “direct consequence of Gov. Northam’s leadership and commitment to job development.” He said the job ahead is to find “good workers for the jobs that are available.”
