The Danville Fire Marshalls office has released information regarding the Fire in Ballou Park Shopping Center on Friday afternoon.  In a joint investigation between the Danville Fire Marshall’s office and the Virginia State Police, the fire was determined to have been set intentionally by a juvenile in the Roses Express store while their mother was shopping.  Employees were alerted to the smoke by the juvenile and when they located the blaze they immediately began evacuations.  Two other employees attempted to extinguish the blaze unsuccessfully. Several other business were impacted during the incident, Dollar General, ColorTyme Rentals, and Charms suffered heat, smoke, and water damage as crews battled the blaze.  During the course of the investigation interviews with witnesses and video surveillance pointed to the juvenile being the cause of the blaze.   The juvenile has been taken into custody and their name and age are being withheld due to juvenile status.
