Virginia State Police warn of a scam where calls are reeceived from an individual claiming to be a trooper or lieutenant who says the recipient’s identity has been stolen or that there is a warrant out for the recipient’s arrest. The caller then asks for money to be transferred or wired to an account or demands payment via prepaid gift cards to clear the charges. VSP officials say law enforcement never contacts citizens by phone to request payment.
