The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles now allows certain driver license holders to apply for a license extension of up to 6 years. Qualifying license holders include military and foreign service members serving outside of Virginia and government contractors working outside the United States. Others can apply for a 2-year extension but need to show good cause. The new extension lengths took effect July 1.
