17 people received the Presidential Medal of Freedom at a White House ceremony on Thursday. Among those was Charlottesville resident Khizr Khan who is a Muslim-American Gold Star father. His son was killed in 2004 during the Iraq War when he put himself in front of an approaching suicide bomber. His actions saved countless lives. Other recipients included gymnast Simone Biles and the late Senator John McCain.
