Sheriff Fred S. Clark stated that on Tuesday October 18 at 6:00 P. M. the Halifax County 911 center received a call about a possible deceased infant in a yard at a residence on Hummingbird Lane. When authorities arrived, they found the infant was deceased.

During the investigation authorities were able to identify the juvenile mother of the infant and the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death. The investigation is continuing and the remains have been sent to the medical examiner’s office in Richmond.

The Sheriff’s Office is waiting for the full reports of the medical examiners findings and charges are pending. Halifax County Social Services assisted authorities with the investigation. Black Diamond Search and Rescue provided a cadaver dog to assist the Sheriff’s Office.
