Springfield Distillery in Halifax took home 2nd place in a blind taste test in their first ever appearance at The 4th Annual Virginia Bourbon Invitational. The event took place on November 5 at The Historic Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach.

Top Virginia distilleries competed alongside Springfield’s owners Kelly Gordon and James Gordon with friends Kat and Kev giving out tastings to long lines of bourbon lovers all day.

“We came, represented, and brought home 2nd place in a blind tasting,” said Kelly Gordon, “We had an amazing time and once again, our team left exhausted and overwhelmed.”

She mentioned how hard the whole team of friends and family works especially Mason Biggs the Master Distiller at Springfield Distillery who is also Kelly’s son. Mason is a perfectionist when it comes to all the distillery’s products which includes an array of seasonal flavored whiskeys as well as canned cocktails you can find in local grocery stores. His precision has made this award-winning bourbon possible, and he works hard to make sure there is plenty of bourbon-in-training barreled to be ready to go for the gold.

The win came just in time for Springfield Distillery’s 6th Anniversary with the reveal of a new flavored whiskey and canned cocktails that will be available in local grocery stores. The anniversary weekend will be full of events starting off November 10th with an exclusive Halifax County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours for members only.

On Saturday there will be a strongman competition starting at 10 am with partner Downtown Athletic Club that will include such events as Keg Toss, Log Press, and Atlas Stone. Plus, the Halifax County Cancer Association will be selling beer and wine for donations. Then on Sunday Johnson City, TN band Road Soda along with D&D Skins cooking up BBQ ribs.

Springfield Straight Bourbon is only available at the tasting room which is open to the public for purchases and tastings Friday-Saturday 12-6 pm and Sunday 1-5 pm.
