A Danville man was convicted for a fatal drug overdose on Thursday. 49-year-old Chauncey Lamont Montague, was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison following a fatal overdose that occurred in the city in 2019.
The investigation revealed that Montague sold a fatal dose of heroin that contained fentanyl in October 2019. The following morning, Danville Police executed a search warrant on Montague’s residence and an additional 8.2 grams of fentanyl was discovered in the pocket of a jacket in his bedroom.
In a release the Danville Police Department warned about the dangers of fentanyl:
While all illegal drugs are dangerous, and present a multitude of concerns for the community, the distribution and use of fentanyl presents extreme risks that can be fatal in a single use.
