A former Rockingham County Detention Officer has been arrested for providing contraband to an inmate. On January 17, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Investigators, with the assistance of the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation began an investigation into an allegation that a Rockingham County Detention Officer had provided items deemed “contraband” to an inmate at the Rockingham County Jail.

The Detention Officer, Neletta Shamell Davis-Barnette, 41, was suspended from her duties when the allegations emerged and was terminated on March 15.

Davis-Barnette has now been charged with Providing Contraband to an Inmate. She was arrested and brought before a Magistrate who released her on an unsecured bond to appear in court. This is an ongoing investigation.
