One cat was killed and a kitten was rescued during a fire in Danville on Wednesday. The Danville Fire Department responded to the fire at 216 Wendell Scott Dr. at 9:35 am.

First arriving units saw fire and smoke coming from the apartment and began the extinguishment process.  The apartment was also searched for any occupants; none were found; however fire personnel did locate one deceased cat and also located and removed a kitten.

The kitten was turned over to an animal control officer with the Danville Police Department.  All other apartments were searched to verify no occupants and no damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Danville Fire Marshal’s Office. The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, one Tower truck, one Command unit, and one support unit with a total of 15 personnel.

The Danville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Dept., Danville Water & Gas, and Danville Police Dept.
