The man accused of setting a Danville City Councilman on fire will appear in court again later this week. Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes will appear in court on Thursday at 3 pm  for a plea hearing.

On July 30th 2025, Buck Hayes reportedly entered the office of Showcase Magazine and poured gasoline on Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler. He then set him on fire. He faces charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Malicious Wounding, and Breaking and Entering While Armed With a Deadly Weapon.

Vogler suffered burns to 60% of his body and spent just under three months at the UNC Burn Unit. Earlier this month, Buck Hayes entered a plea of not guilty. 

Buck-Hayes was previously ruled competent to stand trial. His trial is scheduled to begin on April 20.
