A man has been arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Altavista. According to the Altavista Police Department, on Friday at 8:53 pm, an officer initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation.

During the stop, a K9 conducted a free-air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, assorted pills, marijuana, ammunition, multiple cellular phones, scales, and U.S. currency.

Robert Deshawn Barbour, 32, of Lynchburg, was arrested and charged with:

* Distribution of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance
* Distribution of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance involving 10 grams or more of methamphetamine
* Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance (crack cocaine)
* Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon
Barbour was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority facility in Rustburg, where he is being held without bond.
