MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A Martinsville man charged in a deadly restaurant shooting was set free Tuesday after a grand jury declined to return a murder indictment against him.

The grand jury returned “not true” bills on three charges against Jamal Jenkins, one of three arrested in a shootout that left two men dead inside the El Norteno restaurant. Keilo Anton Martin, 23, and 33-year-old Shavon Lamont Reid — both of Martinsville — were gunned down in the restaurant’s bar area on the night of February 5. Two others were seriously wounded in the melee.

Jenkins had been charged with first-degree murder in the incident. He was released from jail after the grand jury decided not to indict him on any of the charges.

Two co-defendants remain charged in the shootings. 21-year-old Jamel Turner is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in a felony, and discharging a firearm in a public place resulting in serious injury.  Court records identify Turner as an alleged shooter who was also hit by gunfire during the incident.

20-year-old Rosario Eggleston of Martinsville also faces criminal charges in the shootings.
