MARTINSVILLE, Va. – An arrest has been made in a Sunday shooting that left a man seriously injured in Martinsville.

39-year-old Donte Cheron Freeman was taken into custody while visiting a relative in the hospital this week. Freeman is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, armed robbery and multiple firearms counts, including use of a gun during a robbery.

Freeman is being held without bond in the Martinsville Jail. Authorities note that he was on federal probation at the time of the shooting.

The shooting happened on Dunlap Street in Martinsville at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police found 39-year-old Johnny Omar Spencer suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to SOVAH Martinsville, then transferred to Carilion Roanoke Memorial for treatment. At last report, he was listed in serious condition.
