Update: Carlissto Sosa has been apprehended after a shooting in Halifax County on Friday morning.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect from a shooting that occurred this morning in Clover. Authorities are asking for your assistance in locating Carlissto Sosa, 34, 6 ft. tall and weighing 200 lbs.

Sosa is from North Chesterfield County and is considered to be armed and dangerous. Anyone having any information on him or know of his whereabouts, please call the Halifax County Sheriff’s office 434-476-3334 or your local authorities.

Friday at 1 am a call came into the Halifax County 911 center from a female at a residence on Black Walnut Road in Clover stating that her ex-boyfriend was at her residence trying to hurt her. While still on the line with dispatch the male subject gained entrance into the residence and the call disconnected shortly afterword’s.

The first Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived on scene within a few minutes. Upon arrival a male subject and a female subject holding an infant came out onto the front porch of the residence. The male subject pushed the female down, drew a weapon and shot the female at which time the deputy engaged the subject and fired several rounds at the male subject and the suspect then fled into a nearby wooded area.

The deputy and the infant were not injured during the incident. The female subject was treated by EMS and subsequently flown to Duke Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound. The infant was released to a family member.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office personnel, members of the Virginia State Police, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office tracking K-9-unit, K-9 units from Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 units from Virginia Department of Corrections assisted in the search for the suspect and the investigation. An extensive search was conducted for the subject but it is believed the subject was picked up by someone on a nearby roadway.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office authorities have obtained five warrants for Sosa. One count attempted second-degree murder of the female victim. One count attempted second-degree murder of the deputy. One count break and enter with a deadly weapon and two counts of use of a firearm while attempting to commit murder.
