The Danville City Public School Board has officially begun the process of developing a new strategic plan to guide the division’s future. With the current strategic plan set to conclude at the end of 2026, the board and superintendent have taken proactive steps to ensure a seamless transition by launching the planning process early. To kick off this initiative, the Danville School Board, in partnership with the Virginia School Boards Association, held a two-day retreat focused on laying the foundation for this critical work on February 6 and 7.

Superintendent Dr. Angela Hairston expressed enthusiasm about the process, stating, “This is an exciting opportunity to build upon our successes and set a strong vision for the future of our schools. We are committed to ensuring that every student in Danville Public Schools receives the highest quality education, and this strategic plan will serve as our roadmap for continuous improvement.”

The current strategic plan has led to numerous accomplishments, including increased student achievement, decreased chronic absenteeism, and positive behavior outcomes. With the evolving needs of students, staff, and the broader community, the Board is eager to chart a path forward that reflects the aspirations and priorities of all stakeholders.

Board Chair Ty’Quan Graves echoed the importance of community involvement, stating, “We believe the best way to create a meaningful and effective strategic plan is by engaging the voices of those who make up Danville City—our parents, students, educators, and community leaders. This is not just a plan for the school division; it is a plan for the entire city’s future.”

To ensure broad participation, the school board is inviting all citizens of Danville City to contribute their perspectives and ideas by completing a community survey or participating in a community listening session. The feedback collected will play a crucial role in shaping the priorities and initiatives included in the final strategic plan.

A Strategic Plan Stakeholder Survey is now accepting responses from stakeholders to provide their feedback on the future of Danville Public Schools. The survey can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/r/DPSStratPlan.

In addition, DPS will be holding a Community Strategic Plan Kickoff Breakfast on Saturday, March 22 at 9 a.m. at George Washington High School. This event will introduce the community to the strategic planning process.

The goal is to launch the new strategic plan by January 2026, positioning DPS for continued growth and success.
