The Virginia Department of Health’s assistance program aimed at helping low-income families repair failing wells and septic systems has proven to be very popular. According to the Virginia Mercury the department has already allocated nearly half of its budgeted funding for the program. Officials say the surge of applications reflects the degree of need across the state which hasn’t always been easy for health officials to assess.
